'NK Responsible for Test Consequences'

The government says North Korea must assume full responsibility for any problems that might arise following its test-firing of missiles.

Presidential senior secretary for security policy Suh Choo-suk said in a statement Wednesday that the North must immediately stop making any more provocative moves.

Suh called on the North to actively join international efforts to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction by returning to the stalled six-way nuclear talks.

The statement said that Pyongyang will be further isolated from the international community for pushing forward with the missile tests despite repeated warnings from Seoul.

Suh said that the tests threatened the peace and security of Northeast Asia and would negatively affect inter-Korean relations.

Seoul will closely consult with the United States and Japan on the issue, while Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon will hold telephone conversations with his U.S. and Chinese counterparts some time on Wednesday.

Suh’s statement came after a meeting with the National Security Council.
