An official of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says North Korea’s long-range ballistic missile that was launched on Wednesday had landed after seven minutes and not 42 seconds as reported by media.

Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s intelligence department Lee Sung-kyu told lawmakers at the National Assembly Thursday that the Daepodong Two missile had flown for 42 seconds before veering off course, adding that the missile had stayed up in the air for several minutes before landing.

Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung said the test-firing of the Daepodong Two had been a failure. However, he was quick to add the possibility that the North could have fired the missile in such a way on purpose.
