The government is still deciding whether to hold the inter-Korean ministerial talks Tuesday amid Pyongyang’s recent missile launches.
The ministerial talks may take place as scheduled since Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok told a parliamentary panel Thursday that closing the door on dialogue was undesirable.
Speaking before the National Assembly’s Committee on Unification, Foreign Affairs and Trade, Lee also urged North Korea to return to the stalled six-way nuclear talks.
Earlier on Wednesday, security-related ministers also emphasized the importance of dialogue, and that the government should assess the possible ramifications if dialogue were to be suspended.
However, the ministerial talks may also be delayed as the Foreign Ministry wants to put off the talks, citing unfavorable international opinion following the North’s test-firing of missiles.
The 19th inter-Korean Cabinet-level talks were scheduled to open in Seoul on Tuesday.
