The Ministry of Environment said Wednesday South Korea's oil refinery industry will supply a high-grade low-sulfur diesel fuel to metropolitan Seoul from January to June next year.

The diesel fuel with a sulfur content of 15 ppm produces almost no air pollutants, compared to existing diesel fuel that has a sulfur content of 500 ppm.

The introduction of the high-grade oil is part of the efforts by the ministry and local oil refinery companies to host the 2002 World Cup finals in an environmentally-friendly way.

South Korea and Japan plan to co-host soccer's premier event from May 31 to June 30 next year.
