S. Korea Urges NK's Return to Nuke Talks

South Korea has urged North Korea to return to the six-way nuclear talks.

The South made the call during a full session on the second day of the inter-Korean ministerial talks in Busan Wednesday.

According to a Unification Ministry spokesman for the talks, the South’s delegation expressed deep regret over the North’s recent missile launches and stressed that the only way to ease tensions sparked by the missile tests is for the North to return to the nuclear negotiations.

The official added that the North, in response, had requested that South Korea stop taking part in joint military exercises with the U.S. and abolish the anti-communist National Security Law.

The communist state asked Seoul to lift its ban on South Koreans visiting national cemeteries and memorials honoring the North’s founder Kim Il-sung in the North. Pyongyang also requested the provision of some 500-thousand tons of rice and light industry raw materials.

The North also invited the South to visit Pyongyang on Korea's Independence Day which falls on August 15th.
