The North Korea’s state-controlled Korea Central News Agency reported Friday that torrential rains caused severe damage in the North.

It was unusual for the news agency to report the details of the damages.

According to the report, North Korea sustained significant human and material losses due to a heavy downpour last weekend, particularly in South Pyongan, Gangwon and South Hamkyong provinces.

The news agency reported hundreds of people dead in several regions, tens of thousands of flooded homes and public buildings and damaged roads, bridges and railroads.

It also indicated that the heavy rains dealt a devastating blow to North Korea’s agriculture, as millions of square meters of farming land were flooded.
