A World Food Program official says North Korea has not responded to the United Nations relief agency’s proposal of emergency food aid for flood victims in the communist country.

A spokesman for the U.N. agency in Bangkok Paul Risley told Radio Free Asia on Wednesday that he had visited one of the hard-hit areas Songchon county in Pyongan Province, and offered immediate food aid from the agency.

Risley said the agency has prepared 75 tons of food for 13 thousand people in the region.

The U.N. official said that the North is probably hesitating to accept the relief because as a condition for the aid, the agency wants to visit the affected areas to make sure the aid gets to the right people.
