A few of the six North Korean defectors who entered the U.S. in May have completed a program designed to aid their settlement in America, and will begin formal work starting this month.

One defector told Radio Free Asia that she is thrilled to start working Wednesday.

Another escapee said that she learned English during the acclimation program, received medical insurance and plans to enroll in school to learn about real estate. As one of the first North Korean defectors to be accepted into the U.S., she said she will work hard to become a role model.
