North Korea has refused South Korea’s proposal to help it recover from extensive damage from the recent torrential rains.

The National Red Cross in Seoul said Wednesday that the North’s Red Cross turned down the proposal last week saying that Pyongyang appreciates the offer but it can stand up on its own.

Last month, the South’s National Red Cross President Han Wan-sang presented to the North its intent to provide humanitarian aid through the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies in Beijing.
