Civic Group: 4,000 Reported Missing After Floods

A South Korean human rights group said Wednesday that more than four thousand North Koreans are reported missing due to recent floods so far.

Good Friends, a nongovernmental organization for human rights, estimated that when the final tally is done, about ten thousand North Koreans will be reported dead or missing, with one-point-three million to one-point-five million people displaced by the floods.

The organization also said that about two hundred bodies were recovered in Haeju, South Hwanghae Province alone. It added that the floods washed away all but one school and an apartment building in a village in South Hamkyong Province.

The group said that as the North is on alert following its recent missile test-firings, it cannot tap war reserves to help flood victims.
