Koreas to Hold Talks on Relief Aid

Officials from inter-Korean civic groups will hold a meeting next week at Mount Geumgang in North Korea to discuss ways to support the North’s relief efforts in the wake of the recent torrential rains.

An official from the South’s June 15th joint declaration committee said that the two sides have agreed to meet next Friday to discuss follow-up measures after the North’s cancellation of inter-Korean joint celebrations to mark the August 15th Liberation Day.

The official added that the two sides will consider holding separate events and issuing a joint statement on pending inter-Korean issues.

In addition, the two sides will hold intensive discussions on measures to help the North’s relief work.

The meeting will likely reveal the scope of damage in the North and the supplies and equipment needed for relief operation.
