Gov't, Civic Groups to Discuss Relief Aid to NK

The government plans to hold a meeting Friday with civic groups on Seoul’s relief aid to North Korea.

The meeting to be presided over by Vice Unification Minister Shin Un-sang will discuss detailed procedures and contents of the aid to help the North recover from the latest heavy rains.

The government will consider drawing from the inter-Korean cooperation funds in proportion to the donations collected by domestic civic groups.

The meeting will also decide items for relief supplies, which will include emergency food aid, medications, clothes and equipment for relief work.

Meanwhile, Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok will meet the leaders of the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation Tuesday to discuss the scope of aid and items to be sent to the North.

On Wednesday, the minister will also meet with chiefs of other domestic civic groups for talks on ways to help the North’s rehabilitation efforts.
