SK to Send \20 Billion Relief Aid to NK

The government and civic groups have decided to provide some 20 billion won worth of relief aid to help North Korea recover from recent flood damage.

The government and an organization representing civic groups on assistance for North Korea reached the decision on Friday after the fifth plenary meeting on the matter.

In the meeting, the organization decided to send to the North some nine-point-eight billion worth of relief in funds and goods collected by civic groups around the nation. The government also decided to match the donations by pulling from the inter-Korean cooperation fund.

The two sides will hold a meeting to discuss specific items and quantities for relief aid which will include rice, daily goods, medicine and equipment for relief work.

The government will also consult the South Korean Red Cross next week to decide when and what to send for relief aid.
