North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has made a public appearance for the first time in 40 days.

The North's state-run Korean Central TV said Monday that Kim visited a local military unit and a nearby goat farm on Sunday.

Kim had not appeared in public since he visited a tire plant in Pyongyang on July 4, a day before the communist state test-fired seven missiles.
