Written: 2001-06-07 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

South Korea will have a strict law protecting wild animals.

The Ministry of Environment says the law is aimed at protecting wild animals and plants in danger of extinction.

Under the new rule, wildlife preservation zones will be designated and those who want to catch the reptiles, such as frogs and snakes, have to request the local authority's permission first.

The new law bans hunting by nets and electricity. Poachers will be subject to fine of up to ten times the earnings they would make from animals caught.
