Seoul to Resume Aid to N.K. With Consensus

Written: 2006-08-18 21:14:31Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok said Friday that the government will consider resuming regular food and fertilizer aid shipments to North Korea if the South Korean people and the National Assembly agree to it.

Lee made the remark in an answer to questions from a special parliamentary committee on the peaceful unification of the two Koreas.

However, he reaffirmed that Seoul will not resume assistance until the situation related to Pyongyang’s missile tests improves.

The South Korean government suspended its regular shipments of humanitarian aid, which include rice and fertilizer, after North Korea test-fired seven ballistic missiles early last month.
