France advanced to the championship of the FIFA Confederations Cup, beating Brazil 2-to-1 Thursday.
In Sunday's championship game, France will play Japan, which defeated Australia 1-to-nothing in Yokohama in Thursday's other semifinal.
France went ahead when Robert Pires scored in the sixth minute on a 21-yard shot off a header from Patrick Viera. Brazilian midfielder Ramon curled a free kick over a defensive wall and tied the score in the 30th minute. Marcel Desailly put France back ahead nine minutes into the second half, flicking a free kick from Youri Djorkaeff into the far corner.
At Yokohama International Stadium, Hidetoshi Nakata scored on a free kick in the 42nd minute to lead Japan. The game was played in a downpour, and most of the 80-thousand seats were empty.
Yokohama is the site of Sunday's championship and next year's World Cup final.
