Minister calls for APEC investment center at APEC trade fair

Commerce, Industry and Energy Minister Chang Che-shik called for the establishment of an APEC investment center in his keynote speech Saturday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) trade fair in Yantai, Shandung Province, China.In his speech entitled, "The task for new economic cooperation in the Asia Asia-Pacific region," he said foreign direct investment is needed in the region to eliminate economic uncertainty brought about by the differences in knowledge and information in the wake of globalization.Chang met with a number of member countries' ministers following the opening of the trade fair, including Wu Yi, a Chinese State Council member, Shi Guangsheng, minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of China, and Vu Khoan, Vietnamese Trade Minister for discussions on expanding bilateral trade.
Around 160 representatives of 45 private firms, nine local autonomous organizations, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) participated in the trade fair.
