The government thinks that torrential rains during the month of July claimed or injured some eight to nine-hundred people and displaced over 24-thousand households in North Korea.

A lawmaker, who asked to remain anonymous, said that, according to the National Intelligence Service, the torrential rains also wrecked at least 30-thousand homes and flooded over 30-thousand hectares of farm land, one-hundred-five kilometers of railways and three-hundred-87 kilometers of roads.

The intelligence agency downplayed some claims made by nongovernmental organizations that over ten-thousands died or injured due to the torrential rains.
