Entry, Departure for Gaesong to Take 7 Days

Procedures to enter and depart from the Gaesong Industrial Complex in North Korea will take just seven days, a significant fall from the previous 30 days.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said Tuesday that the complex’s management committee agreed to simplify entry and departure procedures with the North’s immigration office by abolishing parts of the invitation system.

Under the agreement, companies operating in the complex, developers, technicians, buyers and construction workers from South Korea and foreign countries just need to apply for an approval to the North seven days before their travel, instead of waiting for an official invitation.

The North is supposed to notify whether their applications are approved within three days.

Those who wish to visit the complex for a simple inspection will still need to secure invitations from the North.

The ministry, however, said that the two Koreas are discussing ways to speed up the issuance of invitations.
