China's new ambassador to Pyongyang took office on Monday.

North Korea's state-run news agency says that Liu Xiaoming presented his credentials to the North's parliamentary leader Kim Yong-nam and began work. The two also held talks but no details were reported.

Hailing from Liaoning Province, Liu has served in China's embassy in Zambia and the Beijing Foreign Ministry's North American department. He also held the rank of minister at the Chinese embassy in Washington between 1998 and 2001.
