A Korean-American group said Friday it will provide North Korea with medical services and equipment under an agreement with the famine-stricken country.
The Institute for Strategic Reconciliation (ISR), a non-profit think-tank of Korean Americans, said it signed a medical aid agreement with North Korea's health ministry in Pyongyang last month.
Under the accord, the ISR will provide medicine, medical equipment and 22 ambulances to children hospitals and obstetrics and gynecology clinics in 11 cities across the country.
The group will also ship 1,000 wheelchairs and 2,000 sets of crutches. In the long-term, the ISR plans to build a medical complex and a medical research institute in the North.
Over the past three years, the ISR has shipped $13.08 million dollars worth of antibiotics, surgical equipment and other medical aid to North Korea.
