A top Chinese envoy says that China supports the fresh initiative by South Korea and the United States to revive the halted six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear program.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei told a South Korean news agency Friday that he supports Seoul's efforts to get the multilateral talks back on track. He also said that details are currently being discussed.

Wu, who chairs the six-way talks, arrived in Seoul earlier in the day and met with South Korea's chief nuclear envoy Chun Young-woo.

After the meeting, Chun said he called on China to persuade North Korea to try to solve the nuclear row diplomatically.

Chun said that he hopes that North Korea will not miss this upcoming chance. This was is in referrence to the so-called common and comprehensive approach agreed upon by South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and U.S. President George W. Bush in an effort to resume the suspended disarmament talks.

Earlier in the day, Wu met with South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon, who briefed him on the outline of the idea.

The six-party talks, involving South and North Korea, the U.S., China, Russia and Japan, have been stalled since November, with Pyongyang protesting the U.S.'s accusations of counterfeiting American dollars and trafficking contraband.
