The National Intelligence Service has discovered that two local firms tried to export products to North Korea that can be used to produce military weapons.

According to Representative Kim Gi-hyeon of the main opposition Grand National Party Monday, one local firm in August of last year sought to sell air compressors often used to handle missile warheads to a North Korean company.

Kim also said that the intelligence body also caught another firm last December trying to export centrifuges to North Korea, which are essential in the process of enriching uranium.

The legislator said the intelligence agency had also discovered four firms that tried to export machinery and raw materials that can be used in nuclear weapons development to Iran.

Kim also said the spy agency had ordered the companies involved to stop their planned sale without taking additional measures.
