KEPCO's Construction in Gaesong Proceeding

Korea Electric Power Corporation says the construction of power transmission facilities for companies operating at the inter-Korean Gaesong industrial park is underway as scheduled.

KEPCO said Thursday that power transmission lines between Moonsan in the South and Gaesong are 43 percent complete and the building of a steel tower and a substation at the complex are also proceeding smoothly.

It expects, however, that construction could be affected by a potential pullout of firms operating in the park’s model complex or a drop in firms launching businesses in the main complex.

The state-run utility supplies electricity to 15 companies at the model complex, while it builds power transmission facilities for an additional 300 firms that will launch operations in the park’s first-phase plot.

Meanwhile, Korea Telecom said that construction of communication facilities for the first-phase main industrial zone has been suspended after the North’s reported test.
