'KEPCO Deficit Huge in Power Aid to NK Complex'

A main opposition party lawmaker says that the Korea Electric Power Corporation ran a two-point-nine million-dollar deficit while providing electricity to the Gaesong Industrial Complex in North Korea last year.

According to a media report, Grand National Party representative Kim Gi-hyeon says the public utility's revenue from the complex was 590-thousand dollars, compared to costs of one-point-five million dollars.

Adding other sales and maintenance costs, Kim pointed out that the net deficit totals more than two-point-nine million dollars.

Kim called for earnest government and parliamentary discussions saying deficits will snowball once South Korea's electricity provision to the North goes into full swing.
