Russian Vice Foreign Minister, Alexandre Roshkov has said that fishing activities by Korean ships in the Kurils shouldn't be a political issue.
His remarks came after Japanese Foreign Minister Makiko Danaka's warning that Korean fishing boats's activities in the southern Kuril Islands would negatively affect the friendly relations between Japan and Russia.
Roshkov said that the activities by Korean fishing boats in the Kurils is legal according to a commercial pact signed by Russia and Korea in 1991.
Russia and Japan have had a territorial dispute over the Kuril Islands.
