KT will offer global cell Phone Services by Satellite in 2003

Korea Telecom (KT) said Friday it will provide global cell phone services via satellite from 2003 when its U.S. business partner ICO Global Communications launches commercial satellite services.
ICO aims to provide global Internet protocol services, including Internet access, data, voice and fax services, using 12 satellites.
The first of the satellites was launched Tuesday.
The service is called ICO's Global Mobile Personal Communication Satellite System (ICO-GMPCS).
A KT spokesman said...ICO-GMPCS will supplement third-generation mobile cell phone services and even cover desert and sea areas.
