The official newspaper of the North Korean Workers’ Party said Friday that the U.S. is the root cause of war on the Korean Peninsula and a barrier to reunification. The Rodong Sinmun urged U.S. forces stationed in South Korea to leave the country.

According to the daily, the U.S. lies when it claims to serve as a peacemaker and war deterrent as it occupies South Korea. The paper also said the North’s call for the withdrawal of U.S. forces should be seen as a desperate demand to reunite the two Koreas.

The newspaper added that Korean nationals in the North, South and overseas will violently struggle to end the peninsula’s unfortunate and disgraceful history at the hands of a foreign country.
