U.S. to Ask for Quick Anti-Nuke Measures

A news report says the United States has begun coordinating with other parties to the six-way nuclear talks to demand immediate measures by North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program.

Kyodo News Agency of Japan says a senior Washington official stressed that when the six-party talks resume, Pyongyang should act to restore confidence lost due to its testing of missiles and a nuclear bomb.

The report says Washington will urge the North to accept inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency and dismantle several of its nuclear facilities.

Japanese sources say the United States and Japan are discussing a possible time limit for the North to return to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Kyodo says South Korea, China, Japan and Russia have agreed to the U.S. plan in principle, but that they have yet to discuss specifics.
