The Japanese government is mulling whether to include North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s favorite Japanese goods on its list of luxury items barred from export to North Korea.
Japan's Asahi Shimbun said that the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry was compiling a list based on a book by Kim Jong-il's former chef Kenji Fujimoto, who left the communist state in 2001.
Fujimoto’s book said that Kim liked tuna from Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market, Matsuzaka beef from Mie Prefecture, Honda CB 250 motorcycles, Toyota Celcio cars and Daikin air-conditioning systems.
The daily said, however, that the Japanese government would consider excluding Nissin instant noodles, another Kim favorite, from the ban to avoid possible effects on the North Korean people.
Tokyo will finalize the list of banned exports by next week—a month after the U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions on North Korea.
