Red Cross Chief Welcomes Inter-Korean Talks

Korean National Red Cross President Han Wan-sang has positively responded to holding inter-Korean Red Cross talks proposed by North Korea's parliamentary leader Kim Yong-nam.

After talks with Democratic Labor Party lawmakers who visited Pyongyang last week, Han said that reunions of separated families must come with no conditions, adding that the North's return to the six-way dialogue is a positive sign.

Han said that family reunions must be arranged swiftly while conditions are favorable.

He also called the DLP's visit and the North Korean leader's proposal of Red Cross talks a green light for inter-Korean ties, saying that family reunions are a particularly pressing matter as around ten elderly separated family members pass away each day.

When asked by reporters if he considered Kim Yong-nam's verbal proposal to be sincere, Han said that he did but did not mention details on resuming the reunions.
