Special U.S. envoy on North Korean human rights Jay Lefkowitz has urged South Korea to review the inter-Korean industrial complex in the North Korean border city of Gaesong.

Japan's Kyodo news agency on Sunday quoted Lefkowitz as warning the profits earned from the project could go to the North Korean leadership, adding a great deal of suspicion surrounds the project.

He also said Seoul should review its involvement and the project's influence to help bring about appropriate changes in the communist coutnry.

A Foreign Ministry official in Seoul denied the report, however, saying Lefkowitz never made such a request to Seoul on the complex.
