Japan is reviewing a list of luxury items to be banned from entering North Korea as part of United Nations sanctions against Pyongyang's nuclear test.

The Tokyo daily Yomiuri Shimbun said Sunday that the list targets the North's ruling elite and will likely include 20 to 30 items such as cars, liquor, cigarettes, leather goods, jewelry and perfume.

Japan will submit Monday to the U.N. Security Council a report on its implementation of sanctions against the North under UNSC Resolution 1718.

The daily said, however, that the United States is still drawing up the final list. Tokyo is consulting Washington and other parties on the list to make the sanctions more effective.
