A South Korean volunteer medical group will open a hospital in the inter-Korean Gaesong Industrial Complex on Wednesday.

The YMCA Green Doctors said Monday that the facility originally was to open November first,
but was postponed due to delays in bringing medical equipment to the North in the wake of North Korea's nuclear test.

It went on to say that the Gaesong hospital would treat South and North Korean workers at the industrial complex, beginning a new era of inter-Korean medical cooperation.

The hospital with four-hundred square meters of floor space was completed in October and has some 30 medical staff including five South Korean doctors and sixteen North Korean doctors and nurses.

Since January, Green Doctors has operated an emergency clinic for complex workers and is planning to build a general hospital with 150 beds within the complex by early 2008.
