A Japanese paper reported Saturday, the Japanese government decided not to accept most revision demanded by the Korean government for controversial history textbooks.
The Tokyo Shimbun reported, quoting sources that Japan's Education Ministry plans to announce the outcome of its review of the 35 passages and omissions, that the Korean government deemed offensive.
The ministry concluded that 30 out of 35 items do not have to be revised, including issues related to Japan's occupation of Korea and the imperial Japanese army's use of "comfort women.
The paper said that despite the anticipated protests, the ministry will revise only a few minor items.
Some of the middle school history texts, approved by the Japanese education ministry in April, have been criticized by the Koreas and China as an attempt to justify or hide Japanese atrocities committed in Asia during the first half of the last century.
