LG Electronics said Friday that it will export 120 wall hanging plasma display panel (PDP) modules to European display companies.
The electronics giant said that though it has exported completed PDP TV sets in the past, this is the first time it has sold modules. Teldasat and Hy-Line will buy the 40-inch modules for use in Euro European airports and train stations.
A module can become a "complete" TV once tuner and speaker systems are attached. A PDP TV fetches about $10,000 dollars per unit.
LG, which first produced 40-inch units in 1997, says they are far lighter than conventional color picture tube (CPT) TVs.
