A North Korean cargo ship and 37 crew members were rescued Wednesday near China's northern Bohai Bay after the vessel suffered engine failure.

Chinese maritime authorities say they rushed to dispatch two towing vessels to rescue the freighter as it fought strong winds and rolling waves.

After a helicopter-assisted seven-hour salvage mission, the vessel was towed to safer waters.
