South, North Korean Journalists' First Meeting in 61 Years

Journalists' associations from the two Koreas met for the first time in 61 years on Wednesday and agreed to promote inter-Korean exchanges and reconciliation projects.

The Seoul-based Journalists' Association of Korea said it met with its North Korean counterpart at the North’s scenic Mount Geumgang resort to discuss their respective roles in implementing the June 15, 2000 Joint Declaration issued after the historic inter-Korean summit.

They adopted a joint statement objecting to war on the Korean Peninsula and pledged to report fairly to contribute to peace and reconciliation for the two Koreas.

One-hundred-15 South Korean journalists participated in the discussion, joined by some 50 North Korean colleagues.
