Park Chan-ho of the L.A. Dodgers has been selected to go to the 2001 All-Star game setting yet another milestone in his career.
He was among eleven pitchers selected by National League All-Star and New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine for the National League roster.
This is the first time a Korean baseball player has been represented on the All Star roster.
The All Star game is scheduled for next Tuesday at Safeco Field in Seattle.
His selection brought him a bonus of one hundred thousand dollars, which boosted his earnings this season to ten million dollars. His rise to All Star status is also expected to boost his bargaining power in salary negotiations for next year.
Park currently has eight wins and five losses with an E-R-A of 2-point-9-1. He goes for his 9th win of the season on Thursday in Los Angeles against the San Francisco Giants.
Another Asian... Japanese Ichiro Suzuki ... was one of six Seattle Mariners to make the All-Star squad.
