In-house inspectors from central and local governments pledged Friday to strengthen their oversight and punishments for irregularities among local officials.
About 100 inspectors at 43 central and local government agencies and state-invested firms discussed anti-corruption and discipline-tightening measures at a meeting presided over by Office for Government Policy Coordination Minister Kim Ho-shik.
The participants agreed to conduct thorough inspections against irregularities, such as pork-barrel policies ahead of next year's local elections.
Participants also reconfirmed stern punishment against those found involved in irregularities regardless of their rank.
Inspection activities will also target public servants who deal with personal affairs during working hours, such as making stock investments via the Internet.
The government will also draw up a detailed enforcement plan for 420 administrative reforms presented at the government's anti-corruption meeting Wednesday.
