Abe Seeks Disarmament Action from N.Korea

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he will seek to pressure North Korea to take visible disarmament measures when the six-party nuclear talks resume.

Returning from a visit to the Philippines, Abe told reporters Sunday that the North must take specific actions to prove its willingness to give up its nuclear program.

He said that during the six-party talks, Japan will also raise the past abductions of Japanese by the communist country.

Abe and Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo held a one-day summit Saturday. They released a joint statement welcoming efforts to resume the nuclear talks and criticizing Pyongyang's nuclear tests.
