The next United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he is willing to visit North Korea to help resolve the nuclear standoff.

Ban told the German daily Die Welt that a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula is an urgent matter and that he will do his utmost to that end.

He said he could also send a U.N. special envoy to the North.
