The government on Monday expressed deep regret over the "disappointing" outcome of Tokyo's review of Seoul's demand for further revisions in controversial history textbooks and has decided to mobilize all means possible to rectify the issue.
Japanese Ambassador to Seoul Terusuke Terada visited Foreign Minister Han Seung-soo in the morning and delivered his government's position that it would revise only two of the 35 passages that Seoul raised objections to in early May.
While meeting the secretaries-general from Japan's three ruling coalition parties, including the Liberal Democratic Party, Han expressed strong regrets and informed them that South Korea will
respond firmly.
The government warned Japan that diplomatic relations require a high-level of credibility and might be suspended, given the judgment that Tokyo essentially rejected Seoul's demands.
