Luxury Goods Still Common in N.Korea

Radio Free Asia says shops in Pyongyang still sell expensive imports despite the U.N. Security Council ban on delivering luxury goods to North Korea.

Quoting Japan's Kyodo News Agency, the report said Sunday that shops at the Koryo Hotel in Pyongyang display foreign luxuries like French perfume, Russian vodka and Japanese sake.

The report said foreign exchanges rates against the Japanese yen, euro, and the Chinese yuan also remain unchanged.

The U.S. government-funded broadcaster also said the prices of Japanese cigarettes have risen more than three times over the past two months in the North.

The price hike is not because of the U.N. ban but Japan's barring of the North Korean cargo vessel Mankyungbong after the North's missile tests in July.
