The government plans to install an automated recognition system based on radio frequency identification at the Gaesong Industrial Complex in North Korea after obtaining U.S. approval.

The Unification Ministry on Thursday said that the U.S. Commerce Department approved installation of the system, which is subject to controls on the transfer of strategic goods to the communist country.

The ministry said that the government, in consultation with Pyongyang, will soon install the equipment at the complex and the Customs, Immigrations and Quarantine offices for Gyeongeui railroads.

The government introduced the system for faster customs clearance and better control of major products at the complex.
