Gov't to adopt flexible work hour system for public employees

Written: 2001-07-11 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Ministry officials said Wednesday Government employees will be able to choose their own working hours starting later this year if the proposals by the Government Administration and Home Affairs Ministry are accepted by the cabinet.
The new system would go into effect first for contract workers and would then be gradually adopted throughout public officialdom after the president declared the decree.
Officials said they will first apply the system to public workers on 24-hour shifts, such as librarians, typists, secretaries and postmen, and to part-time posts.
The proposal basically changes age-old nine-to-six working practices.
Officials said, however, the ministry would make exceptions for jobs that deal with national security.
