South Korean and American lawmakers agreed Tuesday to submit to each country's legislature a resolution on China's refugee issue.
The first-ever resolutions on the issue will urge China to grant political refugee status to North Koreans fleeing their country, lawmakers said.
Rep. Yoo Jay-kun said in a press conference held directly after the two bodies' annual friendship meeting"Hundreds of thousands of refugees from North Korea are wandering in China and the Gobi desert. They need somewhere to settle.
The meeting was attended by seven South Korean lawmakers and about a dozen U.S. senators and representatives.
