Unification Minister Lee Jae-jeong said Thursday that South and North Korea should pursue dialogue for a peace process in parallel with six-nation talks to resolve the North Korean nuclear problem.
In his first regular news briefing since being sworn in last month, the minister said that his staff will study ways to officially put an end to the 1950-1953 Korean War.
Regarding the possible resumption of aid to the North, Lee said the most important thing is making progress in the six-party talks. He added that other important factors include the reopening of inter-Korean dialogue and the will of the South Korean public.
He also recommended that various programs be developed to increase mutual understanding between the two Koreas.
In addition, he said Seoul will share its North Korea policy with the international community. For instance, he said, the Unification Ministry plans to produce documents in English for a global audience, and seek cooperation with other countries on the reunification issue.
