North Korea has stressed active efforts to realize the unity of the Korean people.

In a joint newspaper editorial on the North’s policy goals for the new year, Pyongyang also urged political and technological enhancement of the military, which it called the foundation of national defense.

The editorial also mentioned South Korea's upcoming presidential elections, urging efforts to fight against pro-American conservatives in the South.

The North, however, did not comment specifically on its nuclear weapons and relations with the United States.
